Humanities Immigration Project Reflection
I feel that I learned so much more in this project than the previous “fail project”. Charmaine and I wanted to learn about immigration. So we decided to do a podcast. It wasn’t a long project, only a couple weeks, so a podcast seemed like a very suitable project for the amount of time we had. Our research was what came first. And it was actually a majority of the project as well. We did do regular research (computer, books, online encyclopedias), but a good chunk of the final product was our interviews that we did. We interviewed a immigrant from england and another immigrant from Canada. Hearing their stories and comparing them was interesting. Their interest in moving to the U.S. involved schools and jobs. But, the Immigrant from england had a rare case and took only a year to get in. On the other hand, the Immigrant from Canada took several tries and many years. Both thought it was a long process, and they both have some problems with the system. I would have liked to have added in the question of whether or not they think that the very long system is necessary and if they think there is a way to de-compllicate it. I was also intrigued by what one of the immigrated said, about the system almost making them week weird, or like an alien, which, along with probation, was a term the U.S. immigration people used. I felt the result of the project was very good. I think we could have added in more facts about all the other graphs we had, but that would have made it even longer than it already was. I sort of felt that I was a little bit of a slacker on the project (NOT intentionally), because she wrote the questions, organized and put together the podcast, and did other stuff too. And I wrote the intro, translated all the graphs (about 10) into English and not math, interviewed one of the immigrants, found a couple of the pictures, and thats it. So I feel kinda bad about that. But really in all, I thought our project turned out really well. I learned a lot about immigration and it opened up a new world to me of how lucky I am to be born into a country where some people have to spend years to get into. I really think a learned so much about immigration throughout this shorter project and I hope my next project is twice as good as ours was.
