Humanities Project Reflection
Researching and creating a project about women’s suffrage in America throughout history set me and my partner Ruby on a rant at some points. Ruby had an idea to do a Jeopardy show for our project and have some of the eight graders take part in being the contestants in our show. We put them into three teams(two of three, and one of two) and told them to read a chapter in a book that their class was already reading, that about women’s suffrage. I think we should have given them more information than that, because some of the eight graders lack of knowledge about that subject showed in our live Jeopardy. I also think we needed to have a better way of controlling them. But, because Ruby and I are not really the type to throw people out or be really serious about things, our lack of control showed. We also needed to put a finer line of rules. We maybe should have made some test slides for practice or even just had a few easy questions ready. But really I thought it all together was actually pretty good, I mean we all learn from some mistakes, but there was more good things than there were mistakes. In the end it all worked out just swell.
So for the whole organization thing. Our calender makes no sense since it was based off our first idea of a news station reporter thing, our evaluation and description are totally lame, and since we were practically in charge of our class schedule(I don’t know if I was the only one who noticed) we gave ourselves a lot of time. It all turned out just great. We actually researched a ton the first day and continued the goodness for the rest of the time, we had a great system, or as my dad says, a “method to our madness”. Our method was for Ruby to find a ton of basic facts and then email them to me. Then I would, well first of all edit, (cause sometimes I had to ask her what something was and she herself wouldn’t know), then I would research that topic even more to get some more information for paragraphs after. The funny thing is, well you know how most groups research then do whatever, then edit? Well, for us it was research a little, ok we got some good information, lets put it into the keynote presentation, and then, again will the occasional run throughout to see what we have. I really liked that process because it wasn’t what we were used to doing, and because it was new, it kept us engaged. And I am pretty sure that process paid off cause we finished early and spent time rehearsing and fixing errors, which made the end product much more enjoyable for us, and I am guessing, the competitors.
I really enjoyed our project, and the fact that we got to share it with a bigger group then we had before. This was one of the best Humanities projects I have ever done. I also liked that we got to do something that was interactive, which was a humanities project that I never have never experienced. I am really looking forward to doing our next humanities project witch I am sure will be absolutely fun and beneficial.
